Demining for Recovery

«Winner in the category People»
Project description:
Challenge: Ukraine remains one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world. Large areas of agricultural and residential land are unsafe, preventing people from returning home and rebuilding their livelihoods. The main challenge of this project is to ensure the safety of civilians by systematically clearing territories of explosive hazards and enabling sustainable recovery of communities.
Solution: The Ukrainian Demining Agency implemented a comprehensive humanitarian demining approach that includes non-technical and technical surveys, clearance of explosive remnants, and strict compliance with IMAS standards. By combining modern technologies, transparent coordination with local authorities, and community engagement, the Ukrainian Demining Agency ensures people’s safety and enables the sustainable recovery and productive use of cleared land.
Result: In 2025, the Ukrainian Demining Agency cleared and returned 678.56 hectares of land to safe use. These territories are now ready for agricultural and community development. The project reduced risks for civilians, strengthened local economies, and demonstrated transparent and effective cooperation between national and international partners in restoring Ukraine’s safety and resilience.
