Challenge: 

The denim industry has been known for its negative environmental impact for a long time. It takes approx. 6.810 liters of water to produce just one pair of jeans. Yet, millions of pairs of jeans are produced each year. So much so that the global jeans market is expected to reach approximately USD 85,4 billion by 2025.

The main goals of this project are:

• To address key problems of the finishing processes in the denim industry.
• To reduce the negative impact of these conventional processes. 
• To raise awareness of responsible production that serves better for the environment and humanity.

Solution: 

Wiser Wash is a patented and award-winning ozone bleaching process which eliminates the use of pumice stone and hazardous chemicals and saves a significant amount of water and energy. Yet it allows us to reach great tones of indigo, from dark to light, without any limitations. More importantly, only 200 ml of water is used for this decolorization step, while 16 liters of water are wasted in conventional methods for exactly the same purpose.

• No pumice stone

Wiser Wash eliminates the use of pumice stone and saves the manufacturers from all its disadvantages; yet allows you to achieve the classic denim look that we all love: Beautiful abrasions and bright contrasts show off the true magic of indigo. This is also essential to have more control over suspended solids management. 

• No hazardous chemicals

Wiser Wash discards all the hazardous chemicals such as hypochlorite and potassium permanganate. Thanks to the elimination of these chemicals, it contributes to better health conditions within factories as well as reduces the footprint of finished garments and the environmental impact of the denim industry.

• No substitutes

For bleaching, Wiser Wash does not use any kind of substitute for the hazardous chemicals; it uses only ozone, generated from oxygen, which is by mass one of the most abundant elements in the universe. Plus, the remaining ozone is converted back into oxygen and water.
