We support local museums – we preserve cultural heritage

Project description:
About 5,000 museums in Ukraine face a funding shortfall, especially during the war. Additional problems include the low popularity of museums as leisure centers, lack of staff awareness of finding alternative sources of funding, and the destruction of museums by the Russian occupiers – more than 2,000 objects have been affected by the aggression.
In 2023, the MHP to the Community program supported 5 local museums in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions. The project not only provided financial assistance but also trained museum staff to look for alternative sources of funding. In addition, the project helped raise awareness of these museums at the local, regional, and national levels, drawing more attention to Ukraine’s history and cultural potential.
Each of the projects has its own achievements:
– Museum in Lehedzyne (Cherkasy region): the central entrance was restored, which tripled the number of visitors.
– Vasyl Stus Museum (Vinnytsia region): replenishment of the exhibition and additional media coverage.
– Vasyl Symonenko Museum (Cherkasy): the poet’s diaries were digitized and published.
The project achieved a large media coverage: more than 120 publications in national and regional media, with an audience of more than 7 million people. A documentary interview about the Stus Museum was created and became part of a special issue of the Local History magazine.
