Steel Dream, a project to rebuild Ukraine

Steel Dream, a project to rebuild Ukraine

Project description:

Steel Dream is a universal concept for the reconstruction of Ukraine developed by experts from Metinvest. It offers a range of ready-made solutions for the steel construction of housing and social infrastructure that can be customized for the needs of individual communities. It stands out for its inclusivity, environmental friendliness and rapid construction speed: a single-storey building can be erected in 2 months, an 8-storey building in 9 months, and a kindergarten in half the usual time. The work involved local architects, engineers and designers.

Metinvest developed designs for 13 types of steel buildings, each with options for different conditions. These include residential buildings (single to 8-storey buildings, dormitories, hotels), social infrastructure (schools, kindergartens, outpatient clinics), and infrastructure facilities (parking lots, sports complexes, shelters). Overall, the concept covers over 200 ready-made designs for buildings based on three prefabricated steel elements (prefab solutions): frame, module and platform.

Steel Dream has already been developed free of charge for Mariupol (35 ha for 10,000 residents), Bakhmut (85 ha for 18,000 residents), and Baryshivka (12 ha for 3,000 IDPs). The concepts have undergone public hearings with efforts underway to engage partners for future implementation. It is also being customized for Trostianets (120 ha) and Hlukhiv (14 ha). A further 30 requests from communities across Ukraine are in the pipeline, demonstrating that it addresses current reconstruction needs.

Partners:

Mariupol City Council; Bakhmut Military Administration;  Baryshivka Village Council; Trostianets Town Council; Hlukhiv Town Council.
