Solar Energy for Hospitals

Solar Energy for Hospitals

Project description:
Challenge: The war has shown that Ukraine’s power supply system is vulnerable: constant shelling often causes outages that threaten the operation of hospitals. Uninterrupted power supply is critically important for operating rooms, intensive care units, and medical equipment. Medical facilities must be energy-independent, as the lives of patients directly depend on it. The use of diesel generators during power outages requires significant fuel consumption and does not guarantee stable operation.
Solution: In 2024, JSC Ukrgazvydobuvannya implemented the project «Solar Energy for Hospitals», installing solar power plants in 9 hospitals in Ukraine with a total capacity of over 240 kW (18–36 kW per institution). Systems with batteries provide a backup power supply for critical equipment. Solar power plants on the roofs of hospitals in Kharkiv, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions allow covering up to 50% of the energy needs and help form long-term energy independence.
Result: Hospitals have gained energy sustainability and the possibility to continuously provide critical services, even during periods of outages. Thanks to the project, electricity costs were significantly reduced, and the reduction in diesel generator use made it possible to reduce CO₂ emissions and noise pollution. JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya continues to support communities by expanding and scaling the initiative to build an energy-independent and stable infrastructure for medical institutions and create a model of sustainable energy for Ukraine.
