Sign Language Dictionary in the Uklon App

Sign Language Dictionary in the Uklon App

Project description:

Challenge: As of today, about 400 drivers with hearing impairments work with the Uklon service. To bridge the communication gap between riders and drivers who are hard of hearing or deaf, the company created a sign language dictionary that allows riders to greet and thank their driver.

Solution: The company created a sign language dictionary with phrases most commonly used during a ride. Users of the app will receive notifications about the option to view the dictionary whenever their trip is completed by a driver with hearing or speech impairments. The dictionary consists of two animated sections that visually demonstrate in sign language the phrases most often used by riders at the beginning and end of a trip, such as “Please open the window,” “Open the trunk,” “Thank you,” and others.

Result: Passengers of the Uklon ride-hailing app actively use the dictionary to communicate with drivers. Social media posts about the project have received over 500,000 views and positive reactions. The promotion of the dictionary received support from opinion leaders and influencers.
