Register of Damage for Ukraine

Register of Damage for Ukraine

Project description:

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has resulted in over $500 billion in destruction and damage, which is growing daily. Losses include critical infrastructure, cultural heritage and the environment, but this amount does not include losses to businesses and citizens. It became necessary to create a mechanism to hold Russia accountable for damages caused by aggression, in particular through the creation of the international Register of Damage for Ukraine (RD4U).

On May 17, 2023, Europe, the USA, Canada and Japan established the Register of Damage for Ukraine (RD4U). Yulia Kyrpa, partner of AEQUO, was elected to the RD4U board from Ukraine. Together with the world’s leading lawyers, she developed the rules of operation of RD4U, which allowed to launch the process of filing claims for damages. This was the first step towards bringing Russia to international responsibility.

RD4U was launched in April 2024 and received 600 applications in the first 24 hours. Yulia Kyrpa is actively working on the development of the compensation mechanism. Her activity as a lawyer and partner of AEQUO is an important contribution to the rebuild of Ukraine, thanks to the promotion of mechanisms for compensation of losses for the state and business through international law.
