Project description:

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine presents unprecedented challenges for humanitarian demining (HD). An estimated third of Ukraine’s territory, or 144,000 square kilometers has been contaminated by mines and other Explosive Remnants of War (ERW). Ukraine is not only the largest mined territory in the world, it is also globally an economically significant food producer and exporter.

As a leading global solution provider for demining, GCS delivered their own innovative remote-controlled technology with on-the-ground training for NIBULON Ltd. straight away and to the highest international standard.

Integral to the humanitarian package donated by the BMZ was risk education to be conducted with civilians by GCS’s specialist Operations team.

Thanks to the funding deployed both via GCS’s bespoke PEAR training and the pioneering partnership with NIBULON Ltd., GCS has ensured a sustainable approach to creating safe environments.

To date, the develoPPP funding has trained over 920 community leaders.

Employing their PEAR approach, GCS has this year trained over 300 forest managers for the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine.

GCS has cleared 50,000 square kilometers using our own machines in pro bono work alone.

In October 2023, NIBULON reported that it had resumed the cultivation of land on 95% of agricultural land cleared of contamination by explosive objects at the Snigurivska branch. In total, NIBULON was able to cultivate more than 5 thousand hectares of mined land in the Snihurivka district.
