Project description: 

The project, Give the Bat a Home, is aimed at preserving the habitats of bats in zones affected by power facilities (substations, overhead lines) of NPC Ukrenergo. The initiative is a step on the way of helping the state in the rapid post-war reconstruction of the national ecological network.

It was started in August 2022, after a preliminary analysis of the Transmission System Development Plan for 2021-2030, data on the crossing of nature protection territories by Ukrenergo’s overhead lines, monitoring of official sources of information (Green and Red Books of Ukraine, Annals of the National Forestry Agency, the website of the Ministry of Environment, Reports from OVD, etc.) and consultations with leading environmental scientists regarding vulnerable and rare species. According to the results of modern research, bats that are most sensitive to environmental pollution, including the impact of war.

With this initiative, the company is implementing its voluntary commitments to preserve biodiversity, outlined in Ukrenergo’s Environmental Policy and the Ukrenergo Policy on Biodiversity Conservation. Currently, it confirms its intentions to remain a national leader in building a modern environmental management system and to direct our efforts to achieve the goals of the most relevant global environmental projects: decarbonization, preservation of living resources, EU taxonomy for sustainable activities.
