PEAR (Provincial Explosive Awareness and Reporting)

PEAR (Provincial Explosive Awareness and Reporting)

Project description:
Challenge: Ukraine is experiencing widespread contamination by explosive devices, which endangers the civilian population and complicates recovery. Many government and municipal personnel lack knowledge and tools to respond to explosive threats, leaving communities vulnerable and delaying effective risk management and casualty support.
Solution: PEAR builds the capacity of government and municipal staff not directly involved in demining activities. The program aims to reduce the impact of explosive devices on people’s lives, raise awareness of the risks associated with them, develop practical skills and reporting systems, and ensure the provision of first aid and rescue support in cases of incidents involving explosive devices.
Result: PEAR has reached 13 Ukrainian regions, training 2,528 civilians, including teachers, social workers, community leaders, and emergency service staff. The project has significantly strengthened local capacity to identify, report, and respond to explosive threats, reducing risks for thousands of people and supporting Ukraine’s national mine action strategy for safer communities.
