Informational Campaign “Keep a Distance of 2m”
Period of implementation of the project:
25.03 – 30.05.2020
The quarantine throughout Ukraine began on March, 12 2020. We, as the non-governmental organization, that time started our activity which was aimed to prevent the dissemination of coronavirus within the community. NGO “Modern Format” is not a humanitarian organization and we did not have neither the capacity, nor the resources to purchase and transfer masks, medicines, disinfectants, costumes, etc. As the one of the components of the activity of the NGO “Modern Format” is the issue of safety, it gave us an idea that we could influence the residents of the community with an information, encouraging them to be more responsible, in particular: to keep a distance in the lines of the shops and the other institutions that have continued their work during quarantine. So, we came up with the idea of the informational campaign “Keep a distance of 2 m”, which was started from Zhytomyr and was scaled up to 15 regions of Ukraine.
Keep a distance in crowded places to counter the spread of coronavirus – the stickers with this call were produced by the NGO “Modern Format” with the support of UNDP in Ukraine. The stickers were spread to the institutions and organizations in Zhytomyr.
The informational stickers on the floor near the cash registers encouraged community members to keep a safe distance between people in the queues of shops, pharmacies, banks, medical institutions and other institutions that continued to work in quarantine.
To prevent infection, experts recommend to distance yourself: to avoid crowded places, to minimize movement in populated areas, if possible to work from home, and in crowded places to keep a distance of two meters. We ordered 5,000 stickers and managed to implement this initiative in a short time thanks to the UN Development Program in Ukraine, which supported our idea and paid for the printing of the stickers.
Together with the specialists of the Zhytomyr City Council, we have identified a list of shops, pharmacies, banks, post offices that served Zhytomyr residents during the quarantine period.
Business representatives had a chance to receive the stickers absolutely free of charge by contacting the NGO “Modern Format”. It took us 5 days from the moment the idea came up to the implementation of the campaign.
NGO Modern Format made 5,000 stickers with the support of UNDP in Ukraine. The stickers were distributed free of charge among the institutions and enterprises of Zhytomyr that continued work during the quarantine. Both small shops and chains of groceries, pharmacies and banks, as well as private clinics joined the initiative.
Non-governmental organizations in 15 regions of Ukraine decided to implement the successful experience of Zhytomyr in their communities. The members of the Hub Network of CSOs joined the informational campaign.
In total, during the campaign, 41,000 stickers were distributed with the call “Keep a distance of 2 m” in the following regions: Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zakarpattia, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Kherson, Khmelnytsky and the others.
Impact brought by the information campaign which was conducted with the very small resources but with the huge support of the different partners and social responsible business can be confidently considered as the successful in all formats: the community impact, the scaling in the Zhytomyr region and the other regions of Ukraine, new cooperation and interaction with local businesses and others. The information campaign “Keep a distance of 2 m” brought some benefits for the NGO “Modern Format” as well.
