Project description:

Challenge: More than two years after the full-scale russian invasion began, Ukraine is still facing major disruptions in energy production, transmission, and distribution. Healthcare facilities and reception centers have struggled to secure stable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electricity. These shortages threatened the continuity of medical care, essential community services, and the well-being of thousands of displaced or vulnerable people. 

Solution: In line with the Ministry of Energy priorities and local communities’ needs and in collaboration with operational partners, the project deployed hybrid, sustainable, and low-carbon energy systems tailored to healthcare facilities, reception structures (schools), and pumping stations. This approach ensures a reliable power supply, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, strengthens local energy independence, and reduces vulnerability of the energy supply to military attacks.

Result: Since the start of 2023, nearly 100 hybrid energy solutions combining solar power, battery storage, and backup generators have been installed in 10 Ukrainian regions. These systems now provide uninterrupted electricity to hospitals, clinics, reception centers, and pumping stations, enabling continuous patient care and essential services. They also reduce fuel dependency, cut operational costs, and promote the adoption of renewable energy at the community level.
