Foxtrot: The Veteran’s Journey. How the Retailer Integrates Veterans into the Team

Foxtrot: The Veteran’s Journey. How the Retailer Integrates Veterans into the Team

Project description:

Challenge: At Foxtrot stores, given the specifics of the company’s products, a significant share of employees are men (57%). They hold various positions both in stores and at the head office, ranging from sales consultants and technicians to analysts and more. Therefore, with the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many colleagues joined the ranks of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Today, about 10% of the company’s employees are defending Ukraine. The company takes care of its defenders by maintaining their income throughout their service, regularly providing technical support, and store teams keep close contact with their colleagues.

Solution: An important milestone in the implementation of the project was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation with Veteran Hub (June 2024). The company joined the “Praktyka” initiative, aimed at building a high-quality culture of veteran employment in Ukraine. Following a monitoring process and recommendations from the partners, throughout 2024–2025, Foxtrot launched a Veteran Reintegration Program, held a series of thematic webinars on mental health, introduced the “Accessibility Guide” and integrated the nationwide mental health program “How Are You?”. It also developed training courses on interacting with veterans and organized inclusive retail spaces. As a result of the monitoring, Foxtrot received the “Veteran-Friendly” recognition from Veteran Hub.

Result: Among the stories that best illustrate the power of human endurance and the effectiveness of corporate support are the examples of veterans who returned to work at Foxtrot after their service. One of them, after demobilization, headed a store in western Ukraine, proving that the trust and support of the company opened the way to new professional heights. Another, looking for a more relaxed format of activity, started a career in the content industry, combining experience with creativity. One more employee, after being injured, successfully returned to work in the Analytical Department, where his expertise helped to improve business processes. These examples show that the considerate attitude towards veterans and the flexible approach of the company turn a return to a peaceful life into a success story.
