Ensuring access to education for IDP children from socially vulnerable categories

Project description:
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has damaged every 7th school in Ukraine and destroyed more than 400. Only about 25% of schools provide full-time education. As a result, children in Ukraine are at risk of losing critical years of education and social development. That is, most children living in Ukraine as of 2023 were studying remotely, without attending school. A huge number of these children did not have a laptop, tablet, or phone to be able to fully connect to online lessons.
To solve the problem, 5100 tablets were provided to IDP families from socially vulnerable categories, selected with the help of the Ombudsman’s Office and social services. BGV’s IT team developed a platform for collecting applications integrated with Nova Poshta, and the fund’s managers checked all the recipients’ documents. Nova Poshta delivered the tablets free of charge to 518 settlements. Vodafone Ukraine provided each device with SIM cards with a year’s access to 4G internet, thus ensuring the comprehensiveness and quality of the assistance.
The main result of our work is a comprehensive approach to solving the problem, implemented through a “big picture” approach. The initiating donor financed the tablets to restore access to online education, and we additionally took care of their functionality, user training, Internet connection, and delivery. Thanks to the involvement of the above-mentioned partners, 5,100 schoolchildren from seven regions of Ukraine have gained full access to education and Internet connection.
