Project description:

Challenge: Teatro Sustentável transforms lives through art, especially through children’s and youth performances, bringing culture and entertainment to children in vulnerable communities in Brazil. Theater is used as a pedagogical tool that draws on neuroscience to improve learning and emotional development. The productions address themes of environment, inclusion, diversity, gender equality, anti-racism, and child protection, shaping a just and open society.

Solution: The project proposes staging itinerant theater performances for children and youth in the most remote areas, where access to culture and theater is virtually nonexistent. Most of the performances take place in municipal public schools, ensuring that no barriers are imposed; the project travels to locations where children can attend. The performances address contemporary topics, ESG themes, prevention-related themes, diversity, and inclusion, consistently using art as a tool for social transformation and the development of collective awareness.

Result: The impact of culture extends beyond numbers, encompassing changes in behavior, perception, and community belonging. Teatro Sustentável measures its social impact through quantitative indicators (an average of 200 spectators per performance, primarily children and adolescents from vulnerable communities) and a digital platform where reports, photos, videos, and updates are recorded. During its 15 years of activity, the theater has implemented 20 projects with the support of the PRONAC, Rouanet, PROAC ICMS laws, presenting more than 2,000 performances in 1,600 schools in 290 municipalities in 20 states of Brazil, reaching approximately 300,000 children and adolescents. The themes of the productions include ecology, sustainability, diversity, and the fight against racism.
