Digital Library for the Humanitarian Hub for Internally Displaced Persons from Luhansk Region

Digital Library for the Humanitarian Hub for Internally Displaced Persons from Luhansk Region

Project description:

According to the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy (as of January 25, 2024), almost 700 libraries have been destroyed or damaged during the full-scale war in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian-language book collections on the occupied territories have been destroyed. This has created a significant challenge to access Ukrainian literature on the occupied territories, especially in Starobilsk Community, Luhansk Region,  as well as in the library spaces within humanitarian hubs.

A unique platform “Digital Library Space” has been developed for a humanitarian hub, supporting internally displaced persons from the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk Region. Currently, it features textbooks to ensure unrestricted access to information for Ukrainian citizens on the occupied territories, monographs by professors of Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman, and digitized literature in Ukrainian from the KNEU institutional repository.

A robust digital platform is the cornerstone of the modern infrastructure for library spaces. This platform will not only replenish library collections but also restore access to Ukrainian books and textbooks. Furthermore, it will play a pivotal role in reviving librarianship within humanitarian hubs. One of the platform’s key features is its strong commitment to information security. Coupled with its ability to help internally displaced persons, develop entrepreneurial skills and new competencies through access to modern textbooks, manuals, and various information resources, it becomes a reliable and indispensable tool.
