Project description:

Challenge: The project aims to develop a comparative LCA study to show the environmental and hygienic-microbiological advantage of the “green” protocol over the traditional one, in accordance with the new Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) for cleaning services (Ministerial Decree of 29.01.2021). The Miorelli Service study aims to confirm the effectiveness of the methods according to the results of accredited laboratories and publications, and the reduction of the environmental impact according to the UNI EN ISO 14040-14044 and 14067 standards.

Solution: The study covers the cleaning services of Miorelli Service in two buildings in Veneto, representing typical civil cleaning conditions (offices, bathrooms, relaxation areas). Sampling lasted for 3 weeks for traditional and green cleaning methods, and analysis was carried out by an accredited laboratory. The functional unit is 1 m² of cleaned surface per year. The LCA estimates the global warming potential (GWP) according to the IPCC model in kg CO₂-equivalents.

Result: Green Protocol of Miorelli Service S.p.A. reduces the impact in 7 out of 8 indicators (consumption of chemicals, water, energy, waste generation, wastewater, CO₂e emissions). Improvements: –196.5 kg of chemicals, –162.2 kWh of energy, –18.5 m³ of water, –19.3 kg of plastic and cardboard, –0.7 kg of textiles, –5.6 m³ of effluents, –244.1 kg of CO₂e per year. The method is recognised as effective and environmentally efficient.
