Clean Energy for Clean Water: Stable Water Supply for Ukrainian Communities through Hybrid Solar Power Systems

Clean Energy for Clean Water: Stable Water Supply for Ukrainian Communities through Hybrid Solar Power Systems

Project description:

Challenge: Due to the war and attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, thousands of people lost reliable access to drinking water. Communities impacted by the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam were the most affected. In these conditions, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply became a critical challenge for survival and maintaining basic living conditions.

Solution: In six communities, autonomous hybrid solar power stations with energy storage were installed to power water pumps and filtration systems. The solution was implemented through a partnership between businesses, donors, and local communities. These systems ensure a continuous water supply even during blackouts.

Result: Six solar power systems now provide daily access to clean drinking water for over 2,000 people in frontline communities. Each site delivers up to 7 m³ of water per day, with excess energy supporting schools and kindergartens. The communities have become energy-independent, and the project stands as a scalable example of sustainable development and effective partnership.
