Art therapy for Ukrainian children

Art therapy for Ukrainian children

Project description:

Many Ukrainian children and young people are traumatized by their experiences, which can have a long-term negative impact on their entire environment.

To counteract this, Porsche AG supports the non-profit organization Arthelps in providing psychological care through art therapy for those affected.

Through art, children can express their feelings and experiences differently and communicate them to the outside. In this way, therapists gain access to the target group and can directly counteract problems. Inner conflicts, suffering and negative feelings are made visible through art which allows therapists to work with them.

Since December 2022, the project has therefore been offered in Smila, Ukraine, together with the SAVE UKRAINE team.

On the one hand, 180 creative workshops were held, in which children and young people can discover, strengthen and reveal their talents and self-confidence for the long term.

On the other hand, around 270 therapeutic group sessions were held with children, young people and women (mothers and widows) to talk about traumatic stress, symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, and how to deal with them.

In the groups, tools for self-regulation are taught and a sense of security is built. In addition to the group sessions, around 480 individual therapies were also conducted to provide additional psychological support to those who were particularly traumatized.
